The cottage was clean and spacious and in a great location just south of the Redwood National Forest (about a 30 minute drive). The walk to Clam Beach was a nice plus and the sunsets from the top deck were awesome!

The home was decorated well, matched the photos, and had comfortable, clean furniture and bedding. We felt safe during our stay. The view was lovely, the location was good, and there were games and books available. The kitchen was adequately stocked with dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and a few spices. Before check-in, we requested to drop off luggage since we were arriving early, and management agreed — very helpful.

However, upon arrival, the home was extremely hot upstairs due to large windows facing the sun. There’s no central air (which we knew), but there were no screens on the windows with the best breeze, so opening them let in mosquitos. After texting, someone offered to bring box fans.

We soon noticed ants in the kitchen (with bait already out, so clearly a known issue) and that the downstairs rug hadn’t been vacuumed well. That evening, the upstairs tub barely drained and was clogged with hair. All but one smoke alarm had been removed, and more ants appeared. I emailed and was told someone could come the next day.

They provided temporary window screens, offered to vacuum (I had already done so), said they’d spray for ants, and reinstall smoke detectors. However, the ant problem worsened — showing up in the kitchen, laundry room, near the front door, in the primary bathroom, and eventually in my son’s bed. We were refunded the cleaning fee.

Would we return or recommend? Probably not, though with improvements, it could be a much better rental.

This home is stocked with everything you need! Very clean! We enjoyed our stay and we happen to hit the town during its Blackberry Festival and we enjoyed all the yard sales happening around town. We met a lot of really nice neighbors during our stay. Would definitely stay here again.

This place checked every box for us: sweeping views, SO close to beach, convenient location between Arcata and Trinidad, beautiful landscaping, soothing decor and wall art, comfy mattresses w soft linens and a variety of pillow types, lots of closet storage, modern appliances, good hot water/pressure, comfy sofa, with plenty of seating for us and our daughter's college friends. Bonus: dark bedrooms for sleeping in! Road noise did not bother us. No ants. No problem finding the place. Easy check in/out. Great communication. Extra bonus: loved having Moonstone Grill nearby for happy hour! Minor cons: Beds lack headboards, which I found uncomfortable when wanting to sit up in bed. Parking was bit inconvenient during loading/unloading as it is not close to the front door. TV is far from sofa and glare is a problem (as is a sense of evening privacy) due to lack of curtains. But who could cover up that view?!

First time coming to this area during the winter. Due to park closures for muddy roads, we were unable to visit Jedidiah Smith redwood park or Gold Bluff Fern Canyon. Due to unusually large swells and high tides, we were not able to access any beaches on the north coast. It all the more made us appreciate the very clean and well appointed Moonstone Beach Retreat.Between rainstorms, we managed to go to the zoo and various restaurants to eat. We spent the majority of our time playing board games and reconnecting. Perfect venue for that.

This house truely is a retreat!! My family stayed for four nights (2 adults and three kids) and it was just great. We loved the huge sectional to enjoy the incredible view and for playing games and reading! Perfect location if you are visiting Redwoods parks. The house was immaculately clean. Lots of fresh towels and bedding. Super well appointed kitchen. They had everything one needs. Huge pantry area. My kids loved the swinging chair inside... a few naps were taken there too! Easy, quick drive from the airport. We have already been telling friends and family we know the perfects place to stay, should they venture out to the west coast! Thanks so much for a great vacation!

We had gorgeous fall weather during our stay and our family lives close by so was a perfect spot for us to come together for walks and play at the beach, suppers and card games! Remodeled kitchen and open areas bright and clean as was the bathroom! I’m always thinking of a night light in rentals and that was perhaps the only thing missing! Management was excellent with our few requests, no loud traffic issues noted and both bedrooms have blackout curtains and blinds, very comfortable beds!

Pleasant kitchen area. Shower good. On Noisy road and steep hill, not easily accessible. In need of upgrades: dreary drapes, peeling deck paint, chipped dishes. Adequate but there a probably better choices. Multiple fees annoying.

Immaculate rental! Nicely equipped kitchen. Good natural lighting, which was important to us as we planned to paint and scrapbook.
The ocean view is possible from one side of living room. This was a bit disappointing to us at first. However, the central location was a real plus! Easy to zip into Trinidad, get on freeway to Eureka, and The Moonstone Grill was right down the street from us. One evening, I had the PERFECT meal which we enjoyed with champagne. Make a reservation.
Also, Trinidad Retreats was a delight to work with, answering our questions quickly and fully.

This house was lovely. Modern, with good kitchen and spacious living quarters. A view to die for. I spent most of my time at the house sitting on the deck with a beer and my computer. Then near sunset my wife and I would drive one minute down to the beach, which was beautiful. The house was about half an hour from stunning redwoods, which we visited every day. Found Katy's smoked fish in Trinidad near the end of our stay. And we had no problems with the noise from the street (we always have a bit of white noise going when we sleep). Would definitely come back.

We went as far south as Ferndale & as far north as Redwoods National Park. Loved the views & our hike in Lost Coast Preserve near Centerville Beach, west of Ferndale. Explored Humboldt Botanical Gardens by College of the Redwoods, plus drove thru the farmlands of Ferndale, also to the South Jetty, & the Eureka Marina. Beach combed Mad River Beach(found lots of sand dollars), Clam Beach, Moonstone Beach(walking distance to the rental house),& Luffenholz Beach & Houda Point(also walking distance to the house). Walked the Rim Trail at Patrick's Point St Pk & the Trillium Falls Trail at Prairie Creek Redwoods St Pk, plus other trails in Redwoods Ntl Pk. Loved staying at Moonstone Beach Retreat!!!

The house had a nice view and was an easy walk to the beach. Unfortunately, it is located on a well-traveled street and is literally 100 feet from the freeway. Noise from passing traffic was considerable day and night, and overpowered the sound of the surf most of the time. Headlights from passing traffic were visible all night in both bedrooms (no window coverings on the windows facing the road). the neighbors’ outside lighting burned into the main living area and one of the bedrooms from dusk to dawn. The window covering in the bedroom was inadequate to block out the light. The hosts were non-responsive when asked if there were something that could be done about the lights. No response of any kind.
Bring earplugs and eyeshades if you stay here.
